What we are doing

The Monash Masterplan

MONASH UNIVERSITY is planning for our future vision and growth as a leader in education, research and learning - seeking to provide campuses which deliver the best environment for students and staff and which encourage interaction with the wider community.

What is the Project?

Monash University has engaged a multi-disciplinary team of consultants lead my MGS Architects, to develop masterplans for its campuses at Clayton, Caulfield and Gippsland.

The masterplan documents will provide comprehensive guidance on the physical development of each campus over the next 20 years, based upon the principles of sustainability.

All future on-campus developments will be underpinned by the principles and strategies of each masterplan. This is to ensure a cohesive  and intergrated plan is developed to provide the University community with the best campus setting to achieve its goals.

Why is the Project Needed?

At a time when some in the sector talk of getting smaller and more elite, MONASH UNIVERSITY is committed to growing without compromising on the highest standards of quality. This will allow Monash University to play a leading role in the success of the higher education sector in Victoria and Australia and take the leadership role in sustainability.

In his introduction to a recent Vision Workshop the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ed Byrne, spoke of Monash University as a young university by world standards. Established in Melbourne in 1958 and now with approximately 56,000 students and 15,000 staff, making it Australia’s largest and most international university. It has eight campuses, including those in Malaysia, South Africa, and a centre in Prato, Italy.

Already recognised as an international leader in research, Monash University continues to demonstrate growing strength in education and has become the location of preference, in a number of fields, to an expanding international student body.
